Hi all,
I have read about turning wet wood but never tried until today. I was doing a bit of hedge laying and took a freshly cut willow log about 3" diameter and put it on the lathe. It was like peeling a apple, the wood just peeled away with hardly any effort at all. That was until I tried hollowing out the end grain - I never seem to be able to do that without a lot of time and effort, and replacing the wood back in the chuck after picking it up off the floor yet again.
Still, I had some fun even ifvI haven't actually made anything.

When turning wet wood you will need to check the chucking tightness on a regular basis especially if you leave it for a while as it is surprising how much it can shrink in a short space of time.

willow was probuably the worst choice you could have made.

Try some hawthorn if you are into hedging - it turns great straight from the tree and has some nice coolouring too.

Look up Michael O'Connel for the master of turning unseasoned wood.
