Hello all,
I ve been wanting to start using hand tools for quite a while now but i have been putting it off due to low budget reasons. Recently i acquired some old wooden planes and 2 old baileys i think which are in bad shape. I also have a broken oilstone of unknown origin.
So... i thought i would try this convex bevel method since you dont need lots of stuff to begin with and i actually managed to get some sort of shavings!!! I used the oilstone on both sides and a couple of strokes on a plain piece of leather. The "shavings" are from pine and poplar.
So what i have in mind is... get a diamond stone, like atoma 400 for flattening stuff and when i get more money again invest in some better stones.
Also im thinking of trying the hollow grind method, but i dont see that happening anytime soon!!!
Excellent forum btw
Regards,
George
