Almost because I unfortunately can't take all the credit
it is sapele and quite chunky...my choice as prefer to a thin edge
i spent the day being taught by Dalboy ( what a nice man and very patient)
thoroughly enjoyable day and extremely informative
I can't believe u can learn so much in 1 day
I could go on but I guess u get the idea

Very good, even more so for a first bowl. I especially like the very fine cut/chamfer around the inside and outside edge. Now, the proof of how well the teaching has sunk in, is how your second bowl turns out :)

That was a well worthwhile lesson, surely one of the best "first Bowls" I have seen, it has all the elements of good design and is well executed, top marks to student and teacher! :)

In my opinion there is more skill in turning a bowl like this than in turning a fancy bowl with loads of coves and beads. Simple shapes like this expose any defects in tool work, design etc and so can be far more exacting than fancy work. From the only it looks better than a lot of bowls by more experienced turners, Deceptively simple, lovely clean shape and good finish. One too be proud of.

I'm with Pete on that. Simpler forms but with ravishing curves take more care at the tool than fancy shmancy. (Within reason). Very well done indeed. I'd love to post my first bowl attempt but its currently circulating the atmosphere in gas form along with the rest of the contents of my wood burner :)

I'm not so big on thicker sides myself because I think I've been indoctrinated by my turning club but the form is lovely.

I took last months challenge of the chuck today

i tried to finish it , but to be honest after my lesson I could see so many errors with my attempt i wouldn't be happy

I needed to get off chuck so I can hopefully move forward

It looks an interesting design Steve (despite your finish challenges). I think you're doing fabulously well given your time on the tools :) I've been doing it 18 months now and I've never turned anything segmented, not once!

i will have another go with the segmented
it was a few mm out and never looked right

i finished this off

It was still a very good design and you should go back to something similar in the future.

Glad you finished the goblet. Look forward to seeing the next piece of turning
