Yes well done indeed, it looks like Pitch Pine, did it tend to clog the sandpaper a bit and smell nicely resinous? If it is PP you did well on the finish too.

yes it is pitch pine and smelt lovely when turning, it did clog up the sand paper a little bit.

Why does everyones first attempt at things look better than my twenty first attempt? :oops:
Lovely bit of work Andy, I'm blown away by the finish for pine. 8)
 
The box looks well turned and finished. You also managed to get quite a good line up of the grain from lid to the bottom, which sometimes gets over looked
 
all I did for the finish was sand going up to 400 grit, then applied a couple coats of sanding sealer then knocked that back with fine steel wool then applied a coat of Chestnut friction polish

An everyone says that looks an excellent first go at box making.
The lid especially is rather elegant with that finial.
