One of my neighbours asked me to "mend" a wooden sculpture in her garden. It is made of elm and as far as I know has been outside for about four years. The attached picture shows the damage over the years.
I was thinking that I would give it a good clean, use wood filler to fill the cracks and then coat it in clear oil. However, as it was a gift from her late husband i do not want to do anything which might make it worse. Does anyone have any ideas on the best thing to do?
