Hi Guys,

I am going to Shellac the box below but want to do it "before" I add a handle. Ill get a better finish on the plain top.

I dont have a handle ready but any suggestions as to what type of handle and how to fix it to a polished Walnut box?

Cheers

Garry

P.S. I am asking before I polish it just in case :)

is it a lift off lid? a simple turned walnut one would look nice if so, either with a tenon glued in, or a brass screw through the top. what is the box for? is the inside lined?

personally, i would dry fit and remove the handle before polishing.

alternatively, to maintain the clean lines, you could rout a small finger recess into the box boxy sides.

Thanks for the replies,

Its a lift off lid, with a rabbit run around to fit into the box.

I dont have a lathe but might try and route a nice handle out of some black walnut and dry fit it as suggested. I have always glued before and my brain froze for anything else.

All done,

Used the same but scaled dimensions for the handle and just screwed it on.

My first none bandsaw box! Next one going to use mitres and splines.
