FINALLY got me a lathe!!

Hi guys,

Just landed my first lathe after quite a bit of research.

Not the lathe i intended buying but a very little used Record CL1-S4, complete with stand came up for sale with a set of 6 Record chisels, Record 6" bench grinder and a Record RP4000 Chuck, all for the princely sum of £230. FAR too good a bargain to turn down i thought?

Anyway, just wondering does anyone have any experience with this particular lathe? To the novice turner it seemspretty much the same animal as the DML36SH? Or am i missing something?

Hi Eddie,

Congrats.

The CL1 is a much more solid lathe than the DML36SH (which I started with).
The bed bars are solid and slightly larger diameter. The motor is more powerful, the whole lathe is a more rigid machine.

Thanks for the reply Mike... glad to know i've got the heavier machine.

Going to give it a strip down, clean and rebuild just to make sure everything's ok as it was lying for a few years and then i'll get stuck right in!
