Ive got two. Ask the questions here, in case the answers will help

Hi , my question is

How noisy is your saw ?

I just purchased a used saw and it sounds like a bag of bolts

Very surprised at the sound and feel of the saw when running

I have had severall reply 's saying they are all like that , it's to do with the gearbox / motor

It is the electronic speed control that makes it sound noisy under no load.

Does it sound like that when you start cutting?

Also you can find a few Youtube vids showing the noise of a new saw.

I recently brought some blades from Summit saw blades as i didnt want to pay Festool's prices and both blades when fitted made the saw scream like a banshee and balance didn't quite feel right. Haven't noticed my saw being that noisy but was with these blades fitted. Gone back to Festool now and happier. Work with a few others who have saw aswell and don't notice any difference in noise between saws.
Have used Tornado blades aswell and these seem fine.

Mines very quiet imho, it certainly doesn't sound like a bag of bolts.

Hi Blister

I'm really pleased you started this thread. I bought mine about two years ago after constantly hearing about how good they are. To be fair the tool has worked flawlesly and I am really pleased with it but it does sound really "graunchy" and silly as it sounds I wondered for a long time if there was something wrong with it. I was unsure about returning it as what do you say? " sorry, but this saw sounds a little funny" and I don't have the technical knowledge to make a judgement on this. Anyway like I said it works perfectly and now I'm a lot happier knowing this is just what they sound like.
Thanks

Richard

Kinda noisy when they first start, but nothing alarming. Never really given it much thought until now. I'm quite sensitive to noise and always wear Ear protection, but the odd occasion I have used my TS55 without, it's not bothered me.

If you're concerned give Festool a call, they are always helpful.

In my research, before I bought one, it was mentioned this growling sound is normal. it has something to do with the engineering required to make it cut smoothly. I think most of the noise is due to the lightweight casing of the saw itself. There's an introductory video on the tube in which this noise is mentioned. I lost the link I fear, but no doubt it's still up there.

Mine cuts like a dream, but yes, it does sound like half-a-bag of walnut shells going through a mincer.

That's exactly the point, not that it's particularly loud (no more so than any universal motor) but the type of noise it makes. If mine where a car you would say the ends where knocking. However like I said previously it cuts like an absolute dream.
