I have found these close to my home and just looking to identify the tree.

I'm also a bit excited it may have started 'spalting', would you agree?

I will try and get some better pics when I go pick it up later - have cleared with landowner and I can take it.

Thanks for that, looks nice does the Poplar if that's what it is.

Well I am fairly sure it is young willow and not poplar as per the previous suggestion but really need better pics for a good guess.
Cut loads of it down myself this week when clearing an overgrown green lane along with a lot of hawthorn, young elm, ash and an awful lot of thorny blackthorn and today I picked up some large pieces of alder which I shall let dry.
But as I say need better pics of your find and if I am right it's not a lot of use i am afraid as willow is very fibrous and soft.

I will get some better pics tomorrow, I'll be down that way with the dog.

I need to get a pocket bark identification book for my travels if anyone has any suggestions on that?

It's only bits for turning, no specific use in mind but I want to try and build up a bit of a rolling stock. Split it, label it and air dry it and use it down the line.

I was forewarned that woodturning would be addictive, I didn't listen.
