Energy switching = its fun like pulling teeth

So currently on EDF's super dooper blue price promise, cross my heart blah blah blah.

Do price comparison on edf site, comes up with 'best deal save £56' -a bit of head scratching, then eventually twig they mean saving against not current deal but versus their standard rate over next 12months.

Saving of £56 actually means £200 more......

So I then pore though last years bills to get annual Kwh.

Then do comparison on moneymeerkat-GOswitch-uCompare

Get up huge list of tin pot unknowns that look like they would stay in business as long as sunshine in Wales.

Names like Iresa ltd, Avro energy, Toto energy.

Then get bogged down in searching for reviews of said tin pots.

Then start looking thru trust pilot and try to interprete whether fake or real.

Then realise its Sunday afternoon, 22 degrees and sunny in garden :D :D :D

So anybody with So energy?

PS remember the days when Seeboard did the leccy, British Gas did da gas and nobody thought Ooh if only I could choose my supplier what fun Mmm

Rant over....for now!

I spent thirty minutes with EON discussing this. The deal he recommended seemed to make sense. Then I got the 'welcome to your new tariff' letter. Same as the old one. No idea why. I'm not stupid but somehow they've got it wrong. But I simply cant be arsed to sort it out.

Bit like my earlier discussions with Amex and PayPal earlier today. Prompted by my Amex card being refused as payment even though I'd used it perfectly OK before on PayPal. 'Call your card supplier'. I did. Nothing to do with us, say Amex. PayPal are sending us the wrong information. Try again. Fail. Delete card on PayPal and try to re-register it. "This card not accepted". PayPal say it's Amex. Amex say it's PayPal.

I'll use another card.

I've been with So for a year, paid £99 per month for the first year which was way cheaper than I was paying British Gas previously. Just reached the anniversary and they've put it up to £133 per month, but that's still competitive according to the comparison sites.
No issues with their customer service, dealt with them only once at the start and they were helpful and efficient.

Thats great, many thahks for the information. I couldnt find any really negative feedback online and the reviews that do exist seem genuine, not made up.

Also money saving expert has a thread where So customers have similar experiences to you.

Cheers Robin

I switched from one of the major companies last year to Flow Energy who were able to knock over £100 a month off our bills. They just issued their renewal deal which resulted in a 30% increase. Just switched to EDF as they are now the cheapest in my area (no idea why some areas in the UK have access to different deals - anyone know?).

My mother just switched from OVO to someone else. Apparently, it takes OVO up to 6 weeks to create the final bill and in the meantime, they'll still be taking money via direct debit, despite the switch and despite the fact that she has a lot of credit accumulated, well over the monthly bill. She wasn't aware of this and phoned to complain, the assistant at OVO was very rude, and at one point replied with :

"Do you not understand what I'm telling you, or do you just not like what I'm telling you?" ...

At this point, my mother said that she would just close the direct debit, but they then responded by telling her, that doing that would cause problems with/delay the refund!?

These companies clearly are making a mint by accumalating interest on holding peoples money, the whole credit thing must be a delight for them.

I actually think it is the other way round. We have been in our house 10 years now so pretty much know how much gas and electricity we are going to use and tell the company what we want to pay. It will often be the case that as we come into November we have built up a nice excess over the summer and all of a sudden they try to slash our direct debit. If we left it this way then come the end of winter and the nice cheap tarriff we would be hundreds in debt to the company. They then raise their price 10, 15, 20% and we are deterred from moving company because we would have to pay a lump sum.

Our previous company landed us with a 30% increase as our tariff had ended. We have just switched and were able to do so quickly because we had built up credit of about £200. I would rather it was this way round than the reverse.
