Earlex HV5000 Spray System - Advice on thinning and cleaning

Hello,

I'm picking up an Earlex HV5000 spray station later today and my first project will be spraying Rustins Plastic Coating. I understand the thinning process and each spray station has a different viscosity the material needs to be to run freely through the machine, but is that all there is to it? What tip size would be recomended for Rustins Plastic Coating?

Does anyone have experience with these machines in terms of cleaning them thoroughly?

I also plan to be shooting some cellulose paint/nitrocellulose lacquer through it soon, what tip size would people recommend?

Where are you spraying it?

Making sure you don't have a risk of everything going bang then I would call Rustins for some advice, and see what they want.

Remember too that Rustins can be burnished and goes on very very well by roller/pad, so depending on the job don't risk making more work for yourself.

I've not sprayed nitro based paint, but for everything else after shooting some thinners through a couple of times I use oven cleaner - not the spraycan stuff, the plastic trigger bottle stuff. Squirt some into the paint holder then sqeeze sprayer trigger very lightly to let some run into the main body and where the needle is inside - or if you can take off the holder and get it in there manually.

Then let it sit for a bit - it'll eat up most oil based residue and waterbased gets dealt with in a flash - and presto totally clean - no residue, grease or anything else to mess up the next spray session.

It's great for reviving old paintbrushes too - just spray a load on - work it in, then re-work it every few days and it'll bring that old paint ridden, rock hard brush you left overnight by mistake into something you can use again.
