just to clarify ... Not a standard plasterboard fixing into TILED plasterboard.. it's linear action of 'pulling backwards' towards the front face of the tiled wall is not ideal. Its applying pressure through the board, outwards. Its a Linear force.

having put up countless towel rails, high level cisterns, low level cisterns, basins, showers, shower rails, shower heads, radiators, soap dishes, bogroll holders, wc pans, etc etc etc ad-infinitum, over decades... with a zero failure rate...
without doubt, beyond any doubt, categorically, use a rawlplug on a tiled wall, be it solid or hollow.
( with ONE exception - i.e. when you pierce the tile.. if you hit a stud or dwang / noggin.. then nothing but the screw itself is needed ).

And drill it with that thing rich mentioned cause its good.
( a std masonry drill is fine, like.. but you must nick the glaze, else it'll skitter about all over the place.. just like drilling any shiny surface, be it a car wing for an ariel or whatever... it 'registers the drill point' and it'll go noplace if you do it that way. )

It's hard to gainsay that.

I'm more relying on people like Fischer who recommend a plug that doesn't expand for the first 1/4 inch for tile, and plenty of tilers on the tile forums recommending not to use a rawlplug the way you do out of their reportedly hard-won experience of tiles cracking.

Gosh, really ;)

Heh heh.. sorry Jake, you are quite right... that does read "Patronising as hell" .. i didn't mean it to sound like that ! Sometime I guess the thoughts behind a sentence don't read as they did when they left the fingers !
Excellent repost, I shall consider meself slapped ! :p

Sorry !

Take it easy and enjoy the remainder of the evening ...

Oh, and 'aye.. for sure.. specialist type fixings like the fischer type bolts and those of that ilk are great things... corballed pans for example, without them, it'd be a real bind. Great things they are, absolutely.
