Do you use wood yards in Wales?

If so, please post the details here so that I can make the information available to members in the wood yard thread.

Many thanks,

Neil

I often drive past Towy TImber but never realized that there was timber yard there - they don't go overboard with the signage. Doesn't look too promising on Google Earth - looks as if they specialise in the heavy stuff, timber framing and suchlike.

That’s why I wondered, I drive past sometimes and says on the website that they have air dried oak, so wondered if it’s stuff suitable for furniture making etc rather than the bigger green timber framing type stuff?

Mon Timber with depots in Newport and Cardiff.
Nottage Timber at Pyle
I've not used either for a while so probably cannot supply enough of the information required for the database.

So where are you MJP? I live not far from Llandeilo

I live in Pontardawe but I spend too much money in the Plough in Rhosmaen so pass that way from time to time.

Martin.

Wentwood - you have already "written up"

I have a feeling Mr Dickman may have ceased trading, he is getting on in years and the fairly detailed website he used to have seems to have disappeared.

Orielton - Their main occupation seems to be making potato boxes for the local growers using local softwoods, but they do have some oak, ash and sycamore, and a very sophisticated saw to cut it with.

Martin, it is quite easy to spend too much in the Plough. Pontardawe is quite a trek though. Don't you have any decent hostelries nearer home?

Mon Timber and Nottage Timber

Thank you for the entries. I've added Nottage Timber, but I've left Mon Timber out as, on it's web site, it only has decking and roofing.

Thanks again,

Neil

Yes, we've three good places in the Swansea Valley, one of them a prize-winning CAMRA pub, but it's nice to have a change and I've always liked Llandeilo

Last time I used Mon Timber at Newport (never used the Cardiff depot), they seemed to have just about everything.
I've just checked their website and it isn't the most user friendly but if you look, they are still listing hardwoods, sawn timber and sheets etc etc. Its quite a big depot so I would be surprised if they had decided to just concentrate on decking and fencing etc. Have another look.
