I have an oak chair that I made approx 30 years ago while doing a course at Rycotewood College, at the time I didn't apply any finish to it.
The chair has been stored in the loft together with some other pieces in ash, padauk and rosewood veneer, none of these had any finish applied.
The oak is discoloured in parts with dark streaks and blotches but the other pieces are fine. I've tried sanding which improves it a little, taking the darker areas back to a light grey but doesn't totally remove the streaks and blotches and white spirit on the oak has little effect.
It's almost like a fumed oak effect that has gone wrong.
Does anyone have any suggestions?
