Hi , I`m renovating an old 12" bandsaw and was thinking about a motor. I found this in a cupboard , its a DC motor 180Watt brook hansen, never been used. Is something like this underpowered for powering a bandsaw which would be only used for cuts under about 4" .(i have a larger one for heavy work.) If it would be unsuitable ,what would it be useful for or should i just stick it on ebay.

You do need control gear for it which if you dont have it will cost you more than a induction motor new

It would make a nice motor for a small lathe ( wood or metal)
or an application where a fairly powerfull motor and variable speed is needed in a small form factor

For a bandsaw I'd say not. As said above, you will need a proper starter for it which will cost more than a new Scheppach (sp?) bandsaw or similar.

A 210v DC motor is not really something you would find in daily use. Apart from which, you'd also need a transformer for that motor which would almost certainly set you back another few £££.

Off the top of my head, I can't think of any application in today's industry for such a motor.

Ok Thanks so i guess its no. I believe i bought it years ago to use with a small Pultra lathe due to it supposedly being able to provide constant torque/speed under load but ended up with a 3 ph motor and cheap vfd i found.
