I have a Trend diamond stone which if you believe the label on the box it has a course and fine side. Neither side is marked and one side doesn't seem any finer or courser than the other.

Is there an easy way to determine which side is which?

Sharpen something. One side will produce a slightly 'scratchier' finish than t'other?

You might need a magnifying glass to tell though. :-D

You sure it's got no marking anywhere?

You should be able to tell when sharpening quite easily. If you can't, then i would question whether it has a course and fine side. A course side will dig into the metal much more than a fine side.

I can't see any markings but then I don't keep my best specs in the garage.

I can't say that any side bites into the metal any more than the other. It's also hard to feel a difference when scratching it with a fingernail.

Looks like I'll have to try sharpening something with a polished edge and looking at the scratch pattern.
