I'd like to say that thoughts and prayers are with those affected by flooding across Cumbria which appears to have been hit hardest by Storm Desmond.

Stay safe everyone.

I'll second that thought.
Until you have experienced the damage and the utter filth flooding brings with it, It really is devastating.

Aye Jamie it must be hell for them, we have had our roof wrecked 3 times in 13 years by gales (3/4 of the whole roof last time) so our biggest fear is gales BUT we live on top of a hill overlooking the forest on one side and the sea/fields the other way and we thought we would never flood but in 2003 we got sodding flooded! the storm actually washed the field next to our home into the house and garden so we had massive drainage ditches dug all along the edge of the field and touch wood its been fine.
We are now cut off from the main road as our farm track is half a mile from it but we usually drive over the fields on the quad for the shops
The poor sods in the towns cannot do much to protect their homes apart from sand bags, how the hell they cope I don't know.
Cheers

Hi

I’m also thinking of everyone affected. Here in South Worcestershire we had terrible floods in July 2007. Water flowed down the hill behind the row of houses we live in, couldn’t go round, so flowed through! Luckily it just ran through, but still we needed new carpets, curtains and some decorations but no re-plastering as it just went straight through. It happened during the day and I was in London so my wife was on her own but had help from neighbours. When I tried to get back by train, I was halted at Oxford and had to get a very nervous taxi back to Evesham station.

Very scary all round and we didn’t have everything fixed till the November! Luckily though, unlike Cheltenham and Gloucester, at least we had fresh water for the next 6 weeks!
