Anyone watch Country File on BBC last night?
They were at the Dorset Woodland Architecture School, where, amongst other things, they are running a project to use timber that would normally be no use for construction due to bends, twists or branches. Using a fascinating mix of old and new technology they have have a system which enables them to to digitally scan odd shaped trees, including branches and then design them into sound structures. A robot then accurately cuts the actual joints required to make it securely fit it together. A modern take on traditional Cruck frame design. The roof structure they were building was amazing.

yes, saw that bit almost by accident. Really good work and very resourceful. Then wifey turned over to Strickly... I'm no celebrity, but get me out of here.

Yes a very impressive set-up.

Another interesting feature on our local TV was a school of boat building being set up in The Royal Navy National Museum in Portsmouth.
Lots of wooden boat building being carried out.
