Hi folks,

I need to buy a couple of sheets of 3/4 exterior ply. How much should a 8x4 sheet cost me?

A quick look at a few large DIY chains websites show about £35. Is this about right or should a local wood yard have it a bit cheaper?

Cheers

Jon

I bought some recently from B&Q for just over £26 a sheet, it's not the greatest in terms of quality but was adequet for my needs.

edit: I've just had a look on their website, it's actually £26.48 for an 8x4 sheet.

hi

ignore the price & go for quality , meaning, it ain't bent, buckled, & bowed like nearly all the big shed and builders merchant have for sale nowadays, of course that will depend on what you going to use it for. hc :)

A slight thread hijack, but have you any tips on where I should be looking for flat plywood or MDF for a workbench top? As you say, the sheets you see in the sheds and builders merchants are pretty ghastly.

I am planning to build some workshop cabinets/tool stands. They will be in a cellar workshop that is dry in the main but has been damp in the past so wanted to use something suited to the environment. Will prob varnish whatever I build as well.

Jon,

If you want good quality plywood than it's best to use a 'Board' company, specialising in all sorts of sheet material. (Wood products of course.)
The thicker the sheet the more expensive it's going to be, whatever the quality band.

I bought a load of Far Eastern stuff - 1" admittedly - for the flooring for my shop and at the time Selco were doing it for around £14+vat a sheet - very good quality apart from 1 sheets or so.

Even at full price it ain't £35 per sheet. Might be worth popping in if there's one local to you.
