I'd want to add some dowels if I was using those. I would almost guarantee the top would open up, unless you had them on the top and bottom.
It would save on buying the router jig though.

It's amazing the range of connectors out there, just came across this website (sadly not UK based)
I've never used any of them..

Progress report. Finished welgding up 6 legs, will go to powdercoat eventually. Got the kitchen bolts from screwfix implemented, and leg plates resessed and thread inserts in those. At the other side of metal legs, there will be a board linkin two legs together, and distribute the load on the floor.

You probably haven’t finished them yet, but I wouldn’t like your wife to catch her knees on those sharp corners on the leg tops, or at least the ones at the front.

Hello Ian, not sure you spotted it in the pictures, but the sharp plates are recessed into the table top, so if the knee gets close, should be all smooth. I'll take some better pictures at some point. Thanks for the note.
 
The deed is done. Missus seems very happy with the final result, and so am I.
