Hi.

How would you rout along a curve without a ball bearing guided cutter?
I don't mean a moulded edge but a groove (for instance) which is offset from the edge by a fixed distance. I know I could just make a template and use a guide bushing, but I was looking for a more straightforward way.

I remember my first router (a bosch pof500) having a sort of a bearing that would attach to the rods of the fence which allowed the router to follow a curve, but that gadget doesn't seem to exist for professional routers.

Make a hardwood finger with a pointed and then rounded off end with say 3mm radius. Clamp the to the router base pointed at the cutter centre and the desired offset distance away.

In use, make sure that the finger is always perpendicular to the tangent of the curved edge that is is in contact with. Easier to do than describe!
