Ok so that rules chrome extensions out.

You can reverse those steps and remove -incognito.

When you open Chrome after a restart, will it allow you to export your bookmarks?

If it will, do that and then uninstall / reinstall Chrome

We're getting way beyond my computer comfort zone I'm afraid. Thank you for your help, but I am not confident to do that without crashing all the wrong stuff.

I'm slowly getting used to opera, and I shall stick to that untill a small child comes along and does all that stuff for me. (hammer) (hammer) , or the laptop just dies altogether. :shock:

Fair enough but exporting your bookmarks will not damage anything.

I recommend you do that at least.

You could then import them into Opera

Slow but sure wins the race. :lol:
I had to change a couple of passwords, and prove I'm not robot a few times, but I now have everything transferred to my new persona.

I'm now fully operated and no longer chrome plated.

ta for those who tried to help, shame I'm too much of a luddite to be able to follow the advice.
