I'm looking for a company who can make brass drawer handles of an antique appearance to match some I have on an 18th century chest of drawers. I know there are companies who specialise in this sort of thing. I have a Georgian chest of drawers with three handles missing and although the handles are later than the chest they are still period handles.

Marshall Brass just outside Norwich have looked aft er me very well in the past - They have their own foundry and if you send them a handle they will be able to make replicas of it.

I have also used Suffolk Brass in the past but not for a long time although what they did form me was good as well.

I had some cast, about 25 years ago !

Regarding matching them in, once you get them back, clean up the castings, if they need it, polish, then bury them in the garden for a month or so. When you dig them up, wash them off then re-polish. The patina isn't perfect, but it will be better than bright shiny new.

Years ago, I know someone who used to make 'Antique" pub mirrors by exactly that method. They sold loads.

Incidentally, the ones I had done were just sand cast using an original as the pattern. It worked, but lost quite a lot of detail on the pulls (the plates were reasonably OK). I think it would have been better to do lost wax in a better mould, although probably more expensive.

I bet there's an expert on 'ere though...
