Chuck & tapered shank has dropped out of my drill press

What is the correct way to refit it please.
Shank is tapered but smooth
Its a SIP drill press, floor standing.

Ensure male and female tapers are clean, loose fit chuck and tapers to drill quill with supporting block of wood between chuck and table and give a sharp downward strike with the feed handle.

Undo the chuck so the jaws are retracted clean taper then whack the chuck with a copper hammer so its tight in the taper

The key is to get both surfaces really clean else it's coming back out again.

I also see now how it can be removed, I have only had it since 1998 so time to learn.
