Hello! I'm new to woodturning and have so far only been doing some basic spindle work. I want to start turning bowls and therefor I'm looking for a chuck to fit my lathe.
The problem is that my lathe tailstock has an odd thread, its M36x4 and I can't find any chuck that fits it.
I do have faceplates / backplates that fits.
So my question is if anyone know where I can find a good woodturning chuck that can be mounted on a backplate. I only seem to find chucks with threads that are suposed to go directly onto the tailstock.
Any help is appreciated! Thanks

If you have someone handy that can fit and turn up an accurate location spigot for your Faceplate you can bolt on an ISO standard Chuck such as the VersaChuck.

Okej thanks!
The Versa chuck looks ineresting, but I don't know if I have an ISO backplate, I don't think so thou, it's more like a faceplate, maybe it can be modified. But I don't know what meashurments an ISO backplate has.
Maybe I'll just contact the Tool Post and ask them. It seems like the VersaChuck is out of stock also so I will have to se if it's available from somewhere else.

I have done some bowl turning with faceplate, but the problem for me was the screws that go into the bottom of the bowl made me have to make the bottom so thick which didn't turn out beautifully. But I'll have a look at that video later.

I turn bowls with our a chuck and with no screws either. Just super glue. Too long winded to explain, look up Lyle Jamieson on you tube, it really works unless you get into big blanks. A chuck is handy but not essential to produce good bowls safely. Good tool control and safe working will overcome many potential issues.
Best of luck.

That is a faceplate that fits my lathe with a location spigot to suit the recess in the back of a VersChuck.

It is used instead of a normal ISO back plate.

I emailed the Tool Post and asked them about the size and measurments of the VersaChuck backplate. But they have not answered. So I was wondering if someone here who have the VersaChuck could measure the backplate?
The backplate I have has outer dia 110mm and resess dia 55mm.

ISO Backplate (for versachuck etc.)
100mm diameter
70mm spigot x 2.25mm deep

Allright thank you!
Do you know the hole circle diameter for the mounting screws, number of holes and hole size also?

Maybe I can get my backplate modified to these measurments or have an location spigiot made as an adapter. That would be great!

3 Holes on PCD.
PCD I think is 3.25" (82.5mm)
8mm clearance holes needed for bolts, extra clearance to allow for slight error in PCD location not a problem because Spigot provides critical alignment.
