Hello everyone. Just came across an old thread on this site discussing broken drive pulleys in a lathe. I've got a sip 01936 (i think?) and pulley on spindle has just broken. Have ordered a replacement from axminster as I believe they are generic, but any detailed instructions on how to change them would be greatly appreciated, there was talk on the thread about PM'ing some instructions on how its done.

About time I joined anyway as I have been lurking for a while in the shadows leaching information from this useful forum!

I'm not familiar with your Sip lathe, but in general when trying to change pulleys, look out for a grub screw (or screws) on the pulley - loosening/removing these *may* free up the pulley wheel enough to remove it. The pulleys on one of my old lathes also have a keyway (a slot) in them so a key (a piece of metal that fits in the slot) locates them on the shaft. These were more difficult to remove and required very careful application of a wooden mallet and a small block of wood to encourage the pulley from the shaft. Be careful when hitting pulleys with a even a wooden mallet - they are probably made of cast metal and will be brittle and easy to crack or break if too much force is applied.

If you phone up SIP they have a man in their workshop that is very helpful, i used to phone him a lot when i had SIP tools that were always braking and they also had lots of second hand parts .
