Not posted for a while, been to busy sorting out our new (to us, that is) house. I have now entered the insulation stage. I am about to order the Knauf-Ecoroll 200mm to top up the existing 100mm's that is already in the loft (any thoughts on that?) and am going to insulat the floating pine wooden floor that is under our front room and above the garage. I am thinkin of using 50mm Celotex insulation board, or should I be using 100mm?, and is there any opinions on an alternative solution? Or come to that a different type of insulation board?
Anybody been in this territory before and can offer any advice? There is so many oppinions on the net that it is hard to come to a sensible conclusion.

If you haven't building regs to meet have a look at Seconds&Co - you might pick up stuff cheaper or better than you can elsewhere.
I think what they often sell as seconds is just over production unmarked by the manufacturer - all mine was brand new but unmarked. Delivery is £30 = vat, but it doesn't take much to justify.

Thanks to both of you.
I will certainly be having a look at them and perhaps give them a ring on Monday. It maybe that the 22 square meters (boarding) I need may be to small a quantity for them. Great site. Thanks

Celotex is one of the dearer brands.

It may be worth seeing if your local merchants have ecotherm or quinntherm. It is PIR insulation you are looking for and it all basically has the same insulation value.

22sq metres is only about 8 sheets so ringing around locally maybe the cheapest option.

As regards thickness, I would go for thicker than 50mm if you can, maybe 70mm to 100mm. Remember if you are fitting between joists fill all gaps with foam from a can. Also insulating between rafters means each joist will be a thermal bridge.

Great information, thank you.
I will be looking into it in more depth tomorrow when I have a bit more time.

Got friends here at the moment.

I can vouch for seconds and co. Bought a load of 4" insulation from them when building my timber drying kiln. Saved a packet and was delivered by their own driver from Wales. I am nearly 400 miles away so £30 delivery was pretty good. Nice chap and even helped me stack it all in the workshop.

Brilliant

ordered from seconds.Co And it will be delivered by next Tuesday. They even had loft insulation which I have ordered from them at the same time.
24 square meters of 100mm insulation board and 78square meters of 200mm loft insulation for £513.800 including delivery and VAT.

Appreciate all of your inputs, pints are on me

I've found Seconds & Co to be expensive, assuming it's the same company in South Wales?

For instance, they wanted £16+ VAT for 50mm Celotex seconds. I only pay £15.35+ VAT from Magnet for new! And I get free delivery!
