Ah! Thanks CHJ! I think general Biologists also know this by the catch-all of 'connective tissue' - saves 'em being too specific when in a hurry in dissection. "Mesentery" is a more focussed name for said tissue holding intestines in place to prevent twisting (colic/nasty tympanic state in horses) and what I think this is. Both butchers'/intestinal caul (mesentery?) and, presumably, sailors'/uterine cauls are just sheets of similar tissue - in that they are thin, semi-transparent and invested with blood vessels. You can see why same name is used for each. I had only heard of the uterine caul before. Sheltered life eh? This despite one grandfather being a smallholder and the other a blacksmith. :shock:
