:? I priced 6"x1" beech recently. The price given was per cubic foot. How is this calculated to get a running foot. Never passed O level maths so need a wee bit of help. hope all you intelligent people out there can help. Thanks and bye for now

Hi Jeff,

1 cubic foot will give you 24' of 6"x1".

1 cubic foot is a block of wood 12"x12"x12".

That is 1728 cubic inches, which if you divide by 6, the cross section of your required board, gives 288.
This is in inches so divide by 12 to get feet, gives 24

Mike, Just a thought...

If you want a GOOD - STABLE workbench top, go and get some solid wood kitchen counter top, you can buy it in many woods - usually beech or maple.

This forms the top of my bench - and its solid.

It will cost you a fair penny though  And I made the frame out of softwood and MDF :(

Mike this may be of no help as I am in N.Ireland but I was quoted by a company called James McGregor @ http://www.hardwoodni.com at a price of £18+vat per cubic foot. I would say you could probably get it cheaper on the mainland as we get ripped off over here.
