Birch Ply suitability

Does anyone know.......I am making an outside structure which will have a clinker style of covering, as a boat..It needs to be semi- flexible to wrap round a former. It will be painted or varnished. Is Birch ply suitable for this outside ? I have seen some boat pictures from ply or is this a special marine grade.....Thank Geoff
