Hi there all,

Just a quick question, how long would I have to leave 4 x 12"diameter x 12" long birch logs till they were dry enough to carve, without leaving too many cracks?

They've been out in the open for the last 7 months, but seem OK, and I just wanted to know if they need any longer in an enclosed environment (e.g. the garage or the loft)

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

Simon

Generally it's reckoned to be a year per inch so if you scribe a suare within your circle then measure a side in inches you should have your answer.

 Oket dokey, a little longer than I was expecting but that at least clears that up.

Thanks, I think I'll go out and buy a fully dried log in the meantime, so I can carve it over the next week and save the other ones for a 30th birthday present to myself. :D
