Morning all - nearly finished the building of a noticeboard for my allotment committee and would like some advice on a durable finish.

It's constructed of some sort of tropical hardwood - I guess Sapelle or some such - hard, very splintery grain.

The back is WBP exterior grade ply.

I hope to finish the sanding later today so wondering what to finish with - was thinking of something simple and readily available in the DIY sheds. It's got to be the sort of thing that anyone can get hold of for future top-up maintenance....

it depends on the wood because some woods have more oil in them than others, some have more sap than others, sapele has a very distinctive grain and smell, pictures would be good.
