Hi all,

I have a nice little bench grinder fro mthe late 1980's left over by my grandad. It runs really nicely but does need replacment wheels.

I have just taken off the worn-out wheels and they specs are 125 x 13 x 12.7
Must I purchase wheels of that exact specification or can I buy slightly larger wheels? I think I'm limited by the height that the dust guard around the wheels sits?

Also what brand makes good grinding wheels that will last the longest before needing to be replaced?

You answered your own question.

What are you going to use it for?
For blade grinding you need a cool running one like a Norton 3X.

Oh yeah sorry I should of mentioned the use.

I mostly use it for grinding water buffalo horn (longbow maker) but also for sharpening drill bits occasionally.

eek, that site is difficult to use. Don't think they have an online shop??
I don't think I need anything too fancy. I really only use the bench grinder to carve horn nocks for bow tips, and maybe shape bits of wood for knife handles now and again, but thanks for the link to the different materials and their uses... most educational.
