Hi

I have an Elektra Beckum 316 bandsaw which is now 10 years old and has developed a tendency to break blades. I have checked everything and am now wondering if I should change the tyres. They have never been changed and have seen a lot of use. Any comments would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Mike

I cant imagine any circumstances that the tyres could cause the blade to break if they look in reasonable condition i.e no bits missing

Blades breaking could be down to too high tension or poorly welded.
Or abusing the blade during a cut...pushing work in too fast and overloading the blade

Are they breaking at the weld?

Hi Ian sorry I am a bit late replying and thanks for your comments. I have reduced the tension considerably and have not had a breakage since. I have rechecked the tyres and although they are obviously worn they are not damaged. I am inclined to think I have been a bit enthusiastic with the tension.

Thanks

Mike
