Hi looking for some advice please.
Want to get a bandsaw and bobbin sander, for diy use. Any suggestions on good value for money, have about £400 to spend.

What will be the general size of timber you will be working with and how much spce do you have to put the b/saw as this will dictate whats recommended. I use 2 I have a little scheppach Basa 1 for small stuff and this is kept about 3ft from the bench and have a big old startrite for use with sheet or big pieces which is at the other side of the building in the main machine shop. Rutlands, Trition, Clarke and a couple of others do a rarther niffty little bobbin/belt sander combo that has had good reveues both here and elsewhere

Hi Droogs, thanks for coming back.
Have seen the Clarke’s and the triton, and as you say have good reviews. Have Clarke’s belt sander already
Re band saw, mainly just light diy and some curve work. Room is not an issue but did fancy one on either a stand I can move or perhaps built a cart

I have the Triton combined bobbin/belt sander, got it for about £160 odd. It's "ok", better than nothing, but it's not great. I found it doesn't do either function particularly well. The belt has a bit of a wobble at top of stroke, the largest bobbin size is pretty small.

I previously had the Triton standalone bobbin sander (think it's about £120 odd now) and that was very good. I was pretty happy with that until I broke it doing something stupid. Seeing as you already have a belt sander I'd go for a standalone bobbin, gives you more money to chuck at a bandsaw.

400 for both doesnt give you much choice.
I have the record BBS1 bobbin sander and have to admit if i could go back in time I wouldnt buy it.

The bobbins arent tall enough to do anything above 2" deep. And Record is so hard to buy stuff from I have almost given up trying to get more bobbins.

I really like the idea of the oscillating belt sander, but I would want one that can be angled. That might well be above your budget, but I always work on the old saying "buy the one you cant quite afford" because within weeks youll be wishing you had spent the extra.
as always, you need to decide exactly what you will doing with them allowing for future expansion of your work

The largest sized bobbin from the original Triton bobbin-only can be used on the b&b version albeit you might have to make an insert plate to allow for the extra width. The rubber drum can be bought as a spare for around £13.

The table can be angled too.

Hi been looking at the following for bandsaw, any views, general light work etc
Axminster Craft AC1950B Bandsaw

Bandsaws are like cars, you buy the little budget one because its cheap and youre convinced youll never need more power, then every time you drive it you wish you'd bought the bigger engined version because its just not up to what you want to do with it.

I bought a 170 size, struggled with it for over a year cursing every time I had to use it. i sold it and bought a 350. For the last three years i have been smiling whenever I used it.
