i just aquired my first BS, and i am trying to make sense of it.
One of the things i am wondering about is the use for the mitre guide.
if i look at my table saw, the mitre guide makes sense.
I stick the piece of wood against the guide, and slide it across the table, job done.
on the BS, however, can i use this mitre guide to cut at 90deg, or 45 for that matter ? i am under the impression that the saw will not cut parallel to the guide (that's why you do a test cut, and then adjust the fence parrallel to the kerf) so what's the logic behind the guide ?

at the moment, i am thinking about making mitred boxes (45 cut on all joints). for this, i angle the table at 45. but then, i also need to make a straight cut (i.e 90deg to the blade, or parallel to the mitre guide rail) on the table saw, i would have used the mitre guide on 90deg.. can i do this on the bandsaw ?

i am a little confused
