My boss had the same problem 14 years ago, and he's still kicking, the treatment is improving every year, I hope they caught it early.

Welcome back from me too. In difficult times, it's really important to stay connected with people who respond to you and respect what you do. I think that one of the great strengths of this forum is that it lets us talk about stuff that matters, as well as trivial stuff like how to sharpen tools. Quite a few members have shared their troubles with virtual friends on here and got a lot of positive vibes as a result.

I hope things take a better turn for you - and it looks like they have started to.
