My car insurance is up for renewal. (no claims over 20 years +)

My brother in law had a bad experience last year, he had a KIA like the Jaguar, from new and only 20K on the clock. A lady forgot to apply her handbrake when she parked and her car rolled into his parked car.

the insurance wanted to write off the car for £1500 at book value, he wanted repair, he would accept the £1500 but could he have claimed from the other party the balance of the repair costs another £1000.

Either privately or using the legal liabilities section of his policy to recover uninsured costs from third party?

So can I look around for a motor insurance policy that pays costs upto a certain value regardless of book value, is there such a thing?

You need a specialist insurer who does agreed value. However that might only be available with classic car insurance? Where the owner has spent 10k plus restoring a mk1 RS2000 etc

Yeah that's what Shipman insurance brokers told me this morning.

But why should vintage cars get it and not other cars. Have to bring this to the notice of authorities. :(

Adrian Flux do specialist insurance, I used them for my kit car and found them very competitive. They offer cover for normal cars too so might be worth giving them a call.

Probably due to the lack of similar vehicles to replace the written off one. Where as if my focus got wrote off, i could easily go out and buy another focus 1.6 zetec.

And I suppose some motorists would like there car written off so they could rid themselves of a problem.

Its I know I could not replace my vehicle of 14K miles for its age and working condition easily at book value.

I would welcome the insurance companies factoring in the cost invested in a vehicle (supported by receipts) during, say, the preceding year. If you have an older car then you could quite easily have spent a lot of money keeping it maintained only to have it written off by some numpty. Hardly seems fair to me.

But how do we as plebs get Parliament or the insurance industry to give us what we WANT and not what they give us.

Stalk your M.P.?

and Europe?
