One thing I have noted since acquiring additional Jaw carries of the new pattern.

There can be a mis-match of the inner radius of the new carrier and the older auxiliary jaws at least, don't know if new auxiliary jaws are any different..

No problems what-so-ever in fit to older chucks or fitting of auxiliary jaws but if like me you make your own accessories that rely on gripping a steel spindle in the central jaw carrier some stability issues can be encountered due to differing bore diameters.

This does not affect the normal and intended use of the auxiliary jaws in any way.

...and I recently bought a new K10, which naturally came with a new set of jaw carriers which were fine, but all my other jaw carriers were too big to fit the new K10 without its slides being fettled with a needle file.

So it's no surprise to me that the new jaw carriers are different I'm afraid.

Looks like 'the improvements in quality' are not so all embracing as I've come to expect from the chuck range. Tighter tolerances may improve new stock but obviously remove some back-wards compatibility.

Wonder if the draughtsman who drew up the new stock designs had any experience of working on a lathe?

I also noticed on the new k10 that the new jaw carriers were not deep enough to drive the old screws right home
That's not something I've come across with the Goliath or the SP's but seems strange if carriers are supposed to be universal and the auxiliary jaws stay the same countersink depth, something to check though if in a hurry to swap jaws around.

Still at least the 'standard' is still workable across all chucks which is major factor despite the odd niggle.

I agree. Now it's been fettled the K10 does what I wanted it to do. :)

...it would have been better if it worked straight out of the box though (hammer)

I've come across this as well. Another anomaly that comes up is the square key for the Super Precision Chuck - some are 8mm and others 9mm. Not being an engineer I put it down to Axminster out sourcing the manufacture to various places worldwide and the tolerances being allowed in the manufacture process. It's probably one of the reasons behind Axminster bringing the manufacture back in house.
