This is a bit new to me, most of my finishes are paint or varnish. I have a little project to make a simple clock and do not know what to finish it with.

The clock is an Ash upright with a Black Walnut base and a gold insert clock, I was thinking of a silk style finish.

I have left this a bit late it was going to be a Christmas pressy.

Would a few coats of danish oil fit the bill, should I use a sealer first?

I would think that the quickest, simplest finish to apply now which will require the least prep and attention would be an oil finish. You'll be able to give it at least three applications, possibly more depending on when it needs to be wrapped.

I'd just apply oil straight off, wouldn't seal it myself as you'll stop the oil seeping into the timber so much
