I was wondering when you read a finish is abrasive resistant, is that the same as being scratch resistance?

A while ago ago I seem to remember reading that abrasive resistant finishes are actually softer, which doesn't seem to match in my mind as being scratch resistant. I guess a foam block is scratch resistant in a way though.

Does anyone have any knowledge on this?

Thanks

Yes, it is resistant to an abrasive's scratching, same as it is to anything else trying to scratch it.

I've read that espoused a few times myself, I don't know if that is the case. What I think people are doing is equating brittleness with hardness, and while there's some correlation I don't think you can equate the two for dissimilar materials. Shellac is very brittle as a prime example, but it has far lower scratch resistance than poly.

Thanks for the input.

I think I get what you mean with associating hardness with brittleness or maybe more so scratch resistance with brittleness.
