Anyone seen this in the grain before?

Hi, I have been busy turning a few laburnam tea lights and have come across a really interesting bit of grain in the one piece I cut up. It has a streak running through it that looks like there is a seperate piece running at right angles to the normal direction of the grain.
I've taken a few pictures of it but they don't really do it justice, the contrast in the colours is brilliant.
I've no idea how this has happened.

could have been near the crotch of the tree or past storm damage thats healed over

Healed over damage sounds right to be but whatever caused it the effect looks really good.

It looks as if it is were the support stake band was around it when it was a sapling and it got to tight and damaged the tree
