Actually, if you're talking about the little bracket on the front of the rail in between the saw mounting brackets - I haven't a clue (and I've had one for 3 years!)

It's to allow you to set the saw in exactly the same position on the rail, the saw is held by two clamps, either of these will fit into the clip.

It's used if you are doing repeated cuts and using the stops on the supports.
