Well its recent history is about 20/25years old as a Hand Banister, 5m long.... well the things you hold onto as you walk up/down your stairs at home.

New neighbour decided to refit their home, and threw it out, so I nabbed it.

My first thought was teak due to the grain, but soooo difficult to cut even with a 7 PGT Scroll Saw blade...

As it was used as a banister I would say it is almost certainly Brazilian mahogany and it looks as though it has aged quite a bit but still good for many things. I would suggest when you have made something from it you give a coat of teak oil or something similar which will bring the beauty of the wood alive.
