Some years back I had an old flat roof extension demolished and they guy doing it had neatly stacked the quite chunky 190mm x 60mm x 4.2m long beams onto some bearers onto a concrete hardstanding.
I knew a lot had some rot at the ends and today I went to chop them into 1.4m lengths to load into my car and take down the dump.
After processing 3 lengths I discovered the rest had been extensively eaten by something quite large.... - Does anyone have an idea as to what kind of pest could do this - I have never seen woodworm this large!

Thanks for the replies- yes deffo rot although I think more likely wet than dry.
I was just surprised at the number and size of holes, the amount of wood removed - the lower sections were light, whereas I struggled to lift the upper ones to saw them to size!
