Evening Folks! Just wondering how best to utilise a trunk of chestnut that I have already cut a 60mm off of it already? I've made a few small bowls and a slightly larger one already. I was thinking about making a plate/platter/shallow bowl from the 60mm slab. Rough dimensions are 350mm x 400mm. It has a bit of rot in it and a small crack as seen from the photos. Initially I thought about making a platter (with a mortice) around 340mm diameter as never made one before but I think I'm going to waste a lot of the wood. So can either cut it up smaller, approx 2 blanks 160mm and another 200mm diameters. Not quite what I had in mind but just curious as to what people think? I'm relatively new to turning and maybe the large blank could lead me astray? Cheers Shan
