An over engineered boat shead

Hi

I I've recently joined the forum and am based in Yorkshire.

Started to acquire a some more woodworking and power tools for a number of projects I have coming up around the house and garden.

The first of these is a boat shed in the back garden to keep my canoes and kayaks in. I'm trying to make it fairly strong as the boats will be hung directly off the back wall of the structure.

I will try and add a few more posts with pictures as my build progresses.

I have a section of my garden which used to be an old Victorian road covered in square set stones.

6"x6" posts have been set in concrete in this corner of the garden having first been coated in bitumin paint.

Their are larger openings at the front edge of the structure

A-i aprox 13 foot span
And
I-h aprox 12 foot span

This allows sufficient space to get the canoes in and out.

I'm having trouble finding a long enough Beam to go across these openings.

Figured if I buy something about 4 metres long perhaps I could rip it in half. It doesn't need to be exceptionally strong it's only supporting rafters and corrugated plastic roofing.

The only thing I can find locally are 4m long Oak beams

Does it seem a daft idea to try and 6x6 oak beam in half?

Was thinking of using a combination of circular saw which will go about half way through and then finishing it off with Japanese rip saw.

Also made some little trolleys to move the posts around using M14 threaded rod for axles
