That's rather nice George!

How did you get such a good finish on pine, I would guess very sharp tools? Did you apply sanding sealer prior to finish turning?

I turned a lot of pine while I was learning to be as rubbish as I am now, and while I enjoyed it I could only get moderate finishes.

Hello Mike.
You are right it was not easy getting a good finish especially on the end grain .As you say sharp tools plenty of sanding and sanding sealer.
Evan sanding seemed to bring out little bits of grain.
One thing i did forget to say on my blog i found a negative rake scraper helped.

George, very well done.
It's built up of several layers isn't it.
Turning end grain especially for pine (was it that nice smelling pine?) isn't so easy, I reckon.
Very nice shape.

Hi Ad.
It was not the nice smelling pine and it was hard work to cut and finish.
You can get more info about this piece from my blog.

Hi Mick.
Thank you I am pleased you like it.
