I've been umming and ahhing over which new Table-saw to buy - Xcalibur, Axi, Record and it's time to head off to Sittingbourne and have a 'feel' as it were.
I had pretty much decided on the Xcalibur until two acquaintances who own the newer models gave me their opinions which caused me to doubt both the quality of the machine and the after sales service. Wizard's experience over the Dado blades didn't improve the situation.
Looking on the forum at reviews of the Record gave cause for concern regarding alignment issues etc.
Anyway, I shall be returning in a few hours time having looked at the Axi AW12 trade machine and hopefully will be in a better place to make a decision.
I'm sure that I'll return with an empty wallet and a Landrover full of goodies though - I can never resist when I get in tool shop like Axi or D&M.
Oh well....

Bit like a New Years resolution I shall only spend wisely this year, then another woodwork show appears on the horizon..."next year" I mumble "next year"

Have fun, hope you find what you want :D

What bad reviews have you heard with regards to the new Xcalibur saw, assuming you are referring to the one sold by Woodford WW Machinery??

Doh!! I only went and bought it!!
Now I need to figure out how to get it out of the back of the Landie and round the back of the house to the Man Cave.

Mainly to do with build quality and the fact that both the people I know who have them have received theirs with bits missing/damaged and have had issues getting problems resolved by Woodford. One issue in particular related to the robustness of the fence and the fact that it needed fairly regular adjustment to stay square.
I'm aware that these are anecdotal evidence only - I've never used one of their machines myself but three out of three people I know who own the Axi saw say that after a fiddly setup they've had no problems whatsoever.

I like no problems whatsoever.

I've got the smaller Axi AW10. I'm pleased with it with no problems so far, and the set-up was fairly straightforward. At my nearest Axi showroom in High Wycombe they were extremely helpful and had several of their machines there on demo.

Cheers,

John

That's interesting, I was at WWM a week past Saturday with a buddy who bought the new 10" saw. I have to say, if looked far superior to the Axi saw and for the money made the purchase more favourable.

I havn't heard from my buddy yet since he set it up but having pulled the parts out of the boxes for assembly he was like a kid at Christmas.

Axi does after the customer after care I suppose which also counts for a lot but I guess you have the choice and must consider what is most important to you.
