Wd40 for use as a lubricant with scary sharp?

I stick down Halfords wet'n'dry with double sided carpet tape straight onto 18mm MDF. I found yesterday that getting it off again is tricky! I think the tape has reacted in some way and has gone pretty gummy. The backing came off the paper and had to be scraped away.

    New Yankee Workshop

He just loves his poly... I sometimes think it's his role in life to make everything look like plastic :)

    New Yankee Workshop

I did, what was wrong with it? He went for the dark stain and poly finish and gave his reasons why. Was there much he could have done instead? What with all the colour mismatches in the boards, the wood ranged from black to bluey grey. If anything he should have left that wood on the...

    Pine gummed-up bandsaw

I think there is a video of that being used on Popular Woodworking site... The Wood Whisperer used some other stuff too. I will try to find in a mo. You can re-use it over and over again, either strain it or just pour straight back in the container. Found the video

    Kreg screws in hardwood ply

I used the 1 1/4" coarse on some old hardwood ply a while back, I didn't even think about it at the time :) No problems though. I took the unit apart the other week as it was temporary, came apart ok too :)

    Flushed Away!

Just a quick question is it a true flush cut saw or a Ryoba? I have a Ryoba which I thought I could use for flush cuts. However the teeth do have set on mine (either side) so it marrs the work if I try to cut off say a dowel. True flush cut saws will have no set or only set one way like the...

    Drill bits

The only place I can think of is K&S models in Stevenage, google should find them. I think they mail order stuff out. It's been a long time since I was in there though. Any model making site is worth a look though. I used to have a smaller set of these. You will need a pin vice to hold them too.

    work bench advice

If you want the MDF top to last a bit longer give it a coat of varnish if you can. I will definately do this on the next bit of hardboard I fit. I had this advice given to me, after it got it's first marks though unfortunately. It will make clearing up spills of oil, glue, paint, drinks, etc...

    Kress?

I have a few Ryobi tools imo they are worth the little extra money compared to Erbauer. They are fine for my faily light hobby woodworking use. I have a detail sander, leccy planer and a 1/2" router. The router is nicer to use than my small 1/4" Makita one. I used to have a brush cutter too and...

    Brown trouser moment

Jesus that knife is very different from the modded one you showed. I'd have a quiet word in the sellers shell-like now too.

    Shaker End Tables

Glad you got a response and now know what was meant by gallery shop :) There are a few of them in Letchworth where I work now and then. High street shops with a mixture of mid-high end furniture in them from local makers. There are usually one or two pieces the same or in different woods. Ideal...

    Brown trouser moment

Glad to hear you survived that one Karl. Could have been nastier than it was. It is definately worth considering a letter to the manufacturer (its still all their parts that caused the problem) and one to the goverment mentioning the unstamped sale - assuming new ones are still unstamped. With...

few pictures of our latest saw

Very nice, thanks for showing us. Drooling again and I don't even like dark handles ;) Is the slight front overhang of the brass backs just a signature of your (plural) work or does it serve purpose in your saws?

    Norm in Hand Tool Shocker

Well I'm only on 1200 grit WnD and the blades cut softwoods easily. I'm about to step upto hardwoods and my thinking is that I will need a better edge for that. I quite like sharpening/honing to be honest, weird but I tend to "zone out" while doing it. That's another reason I'm getting a...
